MBAM – End of life

Hope this post finds you in good health and spirit. This is just an informatory post for those using or planning to use MBAM to manage bitlocker in enterprise.

MBAM is reaching end of life and here is what Microsoft said about it “Enterprises can use Microsoft Bitlocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM)  to manage client computers with BitLocker that are domain-joined on-premises until mainstream support ends in July 2019 or they can receive extended support until July 2024. Thus, over the next few years, a good strategy for enterprises will be to plan and move to cloud-based management for BitLocker “

So if you are currently using MBAM, you are good but may need to think of migration soon. You need to think about alternatives if planning for new implementation. However just heard that Microsoft has pushed the dates but won’t be forever 🙂

So what’s next…

Intune has bitlocker functionality and Microsoft has added bitlocker management for MBAM client in SCCM 1905 preview. Here are the details: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/get-started/2019/technical-preview-1905

However there is still huge gap between MBAM and these alternate in terms of features and we can expect Microsoft to provide more updates to fill these gaps.
